UN Global Compact is the world’s largest initiative for responsible business. We help companies and organizations make sustainability a core part of how they work. In the Netherlands, we bring together a wide range of partners, from businesses and NGOs to government agencies, to take action on key issues like human rights, climate, diversity & inclusion, and anti-corruption.
What will you be doing?
As a reporting & research intern, you’ll be part of a dedicated team and work closely with our Participant Engagement team. You’ll operate at the heart of evolving legislation and frameworks, such as the EU CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and voluntary guidelines like the VSME (Voluntary Reporting Standards for SMEs). You’ll help companies within our network navigate these complex requirements and contribute directly to improving sustainability reporting through research and hands-on support. Your tasks will include:
- Diving into current reporting requirements (such as CSRD, ESRS, and GRI) and identifying what these mean for companies inside and outside our network.
- Evaluating sustainability reports from companies and comparing them to our Communication on Progress (CoP) questionnaire.
- With guidance, you’ll develop a practical template or set of guidelines to help companies transition toward better and more transparent reporting by aligning their reports more closely with the CoP and legal standards. You’ll test this with selected companies and incorporate their feedback.
- Supporting the creation of clear internal and external communications about this template/guidance, such as fact sheets, webinars, or articles.
- You’ll help identify companies that are a good fit for growing our network, based on their current sustainability performance and reporting practices.
- Contributing ideas for new initiatives and programs that support companies in making a sustainable impact.
